Objectives
1.To determine the pre-test level of knowledge associated with needle stick injuries among student nurses at JSS School of Nursing, Chamarajanagar.
2.To determine the post-test level of knowledge associated with needle stick injuries among student nurses at JSS School of Nursing, Chamarajanagar.
3.To investigate the relationship between pre-test level and post-test level of knowledge and practices related to needle stick injuries among student nurses at JSS School of Nursing, Chamarajanagar.
4.The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between pre-test knowledge level concerning needle stick injuries among students at JSS School of Nursing, Chamarajanagar and test level knowledge of needle stick injuries.
5.The purpose of this study is to investigate how post-test knowledge of needle stick injuries correlates with nurse’s knowledge of the problem among students at the JSS School of Nursing, Chamarajanagar.
Methodology: The research design selected for the study was descriptive, and convenience sampling was adopted to select 90 nursing students at JSS School of Nursing Chamarajanagar. The structured questionnaire consists of multiple - choice questions to assess the knowledge of student nurse regarding NSI. The data was collected and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results and Discussion: The findings of the study indicated a significant difference between the mean scores of the pre-test and post-test knowledge, which was statistically analyzed using a paired ‘t’ test and was determined to be highly significant. Additionally, the results demonstrate that the pre-test knowledge scores of student nurses did not show a significant correlation with their chosen demographic variables, with the exception of gender and education. Furthermore, the post-test knowledge scores of student nurses also did not exhibit a significant relationship with their demographic variables, apart from education.
Conclusion: The research determined that most student nurses possess insufficient knowledge about NSI, and following the structured educational program on NSI, the students demonstrated an increase in their understanding of NSI, as evidenced by the results of the post-test.
