abstract
Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a chronic metabolic disorder that requires continuous self-management, particularly lifestyle modification, to prevent complications and improve quality of life. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a self-instructional module on knowledge regarding lifestyle modification among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus admitted to Government Hospital, Jabalpur (M.P.). A pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test research design was adopted. A total of 50 patients were selected using a non-probability convenience sampling technique. Knowledge regarding lifestyle modification, including diet, exercise, medication adherence, and prevention of complications, was assessed using a structured questionnaire before and after the intervention. The self-instructional module was administered following the pre-test. Post-test results demonstrated a significant improvement in the knowledge scores of patients compared to the pre-test findings, indicating the effectiveness of the self-instructional module. The study concludes that structured educational interventions are effective in enhancing patient knowledge and can play a vital role in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
