
Background: Educational interventions are widely acknowledged as effective approaches for improving awareness, awareness, attitudes and preventive behaviours related to various health problems, including cancer. Well-structured educational programs utilizing lectures, audiovisual resources, informational pamphlets and interactive sessions have been shown to significantly enhance students’ understanding of risk factors, early detection and healthy lifestyle practices.
Methodology: A quantitative approach with pre-experimental one group pretest posttest design was adopted for the study. The samples from the selected degree colleges were selected using convenient sampling technique. The sample consisted of 60 degree college students. The tools used for data collection was awareness questionnaire.
Results: The study result reveal that, With regard to pretest level of knowledge it shows that, maximum 40(66.7%) respondents were having average knowledge, 13(21.7%) respondents were having poor knowledge and remaining 7(11.7%) of respondents were having good knowledge. During posttest maximum 35(58.3%) of respondents were having average knowledge and remaining 25(41.7%) of respondents were having good knowledge. The statistical paired ‘t’ implies that the difference in the pretest and post-test value was found statistically significant at 5% level (P<0.05) with a paired ‘t’ value of 19.03.
Conclusion: Overall, the educational intervention proved to be an effective strategy for enhancing awareness and awareness regarding oral cancer among degree college students.
