Introduction: A vasectomy, often known as male sterilization, isrna surgical treatment used to permanently prevent pregnancy by cutting orrnsealing the tubes carrying a man's sperm. Vasectomy is one of the least commonrnmethod of birth control in the world. It is more safer, easier and lessrnexpensive as compared to female sterilization. Vasectomy is nearly 100% effectivernin preventing pregnancy as compared to tubectomy. Male involvement in familyrnplanning will lessen the need for female sterilization and the risks associatedrnwith tubectomy.
Aim of the study: To improve the knowledge regarding vasectomy amongrnmale students of Rayat Bahra University, Mohali.
Material and Method: A quantitative approach and quasi-experimentalrnresearch design was used to conduct the study. Total 60 samples were selectedrnby using purposive sampling technique. Questionnaire was used for datarncollection and analysis was done by using descriptive and inferentialrnstatistics.
Result: The study findings revealed that in pre-test andrnpost-test knowledge mean score and standard deviation was 10.37± 2.988rnand13.60±2.527 respectively (Experimental), The paired t-test was used in thernanalysis and p value was <0.001 which is statistically significant. Pre-testrnand post-test knowledge mean score and standard deviation was 9.267± 4.378 andrn9.33±3.356 respectively (Control). The paired t-test was used in thernanalysis and p value was 0.851 which is statistically non significant. Hence, rnstructured teaching programme is found to be effective.
Conclusion: This study concluded that post-test knowledgernscores were greater than pre-test knowledge scores regarding vasectomy amongrnmale students of experimental group. It reveals that structured teachingrnprogram was effective.
