Hand hygiene is the practice, which keeps the hands free from pathogens. Hand hygiene prevents cross - infection in hospitals, but student nurse hand hygiene is poor. Health care acquired infections (HCAIS) are the major cause of morbidity and mortality. Hand hygiene is the practice, which keeps the hands free from pathogens or decrease the amount prior to any procedure or touching the patient. Hand hygiene prevents cross- infection in hospitals, but HCWS adherence to hand hygiene is poor. Easy, timely access to both hand hygiene and skin protection is necessary for satisfactory hand hygiene behaviour. (pitter, 2011).
Aim of the study: The main aim of the study was “an observational study on hand washing practices among student nurse in pyramid hospital, Daund, Pune.
Methodology: Quantitative approach was adopted for the study with descriptive design was used in this study. The data was collected regarding their demographic variables. The population of the present study was health care professionals of pyramid hospital and research centre, Daund, Pune. Non- probability, convenient sampling technique was used with 100 samples.
Results: Finding showed that the z-cal value < z-tabulated value and p- value is greater than 0.05, this means that there is no difference in the compliance of hand washing practices among nurses and doctors.
Conclusion: Study concluded that Statistically findings first shows that there is less percentage of health care professionals who are doing proper hand washing practices and secondly, statistically findings shows that there is no difference in the compliance of hand washing practices among nurses and doctors.
