The effect of hot water foot bath therapy on quality of sleep among elderly people, staying in selected area of Pune district

Sleep is the basic human need; it is a most important universal biological process common to all the people. A human spends about one-third of their lives asleep. We require more sleep for any reasons to cope with daily stresses, to prevent fatigue, to save energy, to restore the mind and body, to enjoy life more fully.
Aim of the study: The main aim of the study was the effect of hot water foot bath therapy on quality of sleep among elderly people, staying in selected area of Pune district.
Methodology: Quasi-experimental descriptive study with quantitative descriptive approach. Non probability Purposive sampling technique used to select sample of 30 control and 30 experimental elderly people in selected area of Pune. Data collection was done by using structured knowledge questionnaire to assess the quality of sleep of elderly people.
Result: The experimental group pre-test mean and standard deviation values are 9.6 and 3.3 respectively. The post-test mean value is 6.13, standard deviation is 3.45; mean difference between pre and post-test is 3.47; standard error is 0.397 and paired ‘t' test value of experimental group is 8.71 which is highly significant indicates that there is improvement in quality of sleep after hot water footbath among the elderly.
Conclusion: The findings of the study revealed that There is significant effect of the effect of hot water foot bath therapy on quality of sleep among elderly people, staying in selected area of Pune district. Thus, study suggest that hot water foot bath therapy is effective for quality of sleep among elderly people.
