Background: Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is among the common vascular complications of pregnancy and, if not prevented, may result in serious maternal health issues. Limited awareness among antenatal women contributes to higher vulnerability.
Aim: The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of a Self-Instructional Module (SIM) on improving knowledge related to DVT prevention among expectant mothers in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Methods: A pre-experimental research design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach was used. A purposive sample of sixty antenatal mothers was selected. Data were collected using a structured knowledge questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The collected information was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results: The mean knowledge score increased significantly from 10.65 ± 3.53 in the pre-test to 19.17 ± 3.01 in the post-test. Initially, most mothers had inadequate to moderate levels of knowledge; however, after the SIM, 83.33% of participants achieved an adequate knowledge level. Statistical analysis using the paired t-test (t = 14.21, p < 0.0025) confirmed that the improvement was highly significant.
Conclusion: The Self-Instructional Module was effective in enhancing knowledge of DVT prevention among antenatal mothers and may serve as a useful educational strategy in maternity care.
